ABOUT JOSEPH
Joseph was a happy, healthy three year old who loved life. He enjoyed playing with his toy trains, his cars and his pretend kitchen. He had a busy social life, with lots of friends from nursery, friends who lived nearby and his little sister.
He enjoyed cooking with his mummy, going on trains and buses with his daddy, and playing outside with anyone who would join in.
Joseph had a passion for books and had just started to ‘read’ them to his younger sister. It felt like his life was just beginning.
This all changed on 1st April 2005, when Joseph died. Joseph did not suffer, he simply fell into a deeper sleep from which he never awoke.

WHO DO WE HELP?
The Trust offers financial assistance to parents bereaved of a child in the Huddersfield and Mirfield areas.
WHY WAS THE CHARITY SET UP?
Just over a year after Joseph died, Neil (Joseph’s father) began to think about ways in which other families in a similar situation might be helped. It came to light that, despite there being a number of counselling and research charities related to losing a child, there was nothing specifically to deal with the expenses that ‘saying goodbye’ to the child can incur.

“We lost our baby girl and nothing can prepare you for the pain and heartache that losing a child leaves, but somehow you have to carry on and make arrangements to put your child to rest at what is already a tiring, sad and stressful time. You then have to find a substantial amount of money to give that child the funeral and headstone they deserve.
No one can prepare themselves for this as it is not something you expect to have to do; we managed with the help of family and friends to give baby Maisie the send off she deserved. However my partner and I were at our wits’ end trying to make ends meet and get through day to day life. We were both out of work owing to the stress of losing our
much loved daughter; how on earth were we meant to find the money to get the headstone we wanted? This is where The Joseph Salmon Trust stepped in. They gave us a much needed grant which enabled us to pay for the beautiful headstone we had our hearts set on.
We cannot thank The Joseph Salmon Trust enough for the kindness and generosity they show to families going through such a hard time in their lives. We will be doing our very best to help them in any way we can to keep this fantastic charity going in memory of Joseph Salmon.”
